Butte Gazette November 14, 1918

Carl Schumann, who last spring enlisted in the navy, died on board the New Hampshire, on November 8th, and his father has received word that the body is being brought back to the United States.  It will be sent to Anoka, on request of Mr. Schumann, and the funeral will be held at Butte.  Carl was a genuine patriot, who sold his property and gave up his work to enlist in the service, and deserves all the honor we can give him.

Butte Gazette November 21, 1918

                      Obituary

Carl Schuman was born on March 20, 1891, in Merrick county, Nebraska.  In 1895 with his parents he came to Boyd county, and has been a resident ever since.  Three years ago he went to Dakota and took a homestead, remaining there until the war broke out.  Last year he held a sale of his personal property, and leaving his homestead in charge of his sister, came down to Boyd county and enlisted in the navy.  After a period of training at Great Lakes, he was assigned to the warship, New Hampshire, and was on that ship at the time of his death.

Carl was a fine young man whose friends are numbered by his aquaintances, and the bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community in their sorrow.
