PVT. Rathburn Satterlee

Rathburn Satterlee was born on January 8, 1900.  He was the son of Cynthia Satterlee and lived in the Mullen area of Boyd County as a boy.  His family later moved to Iowa.  He served with the U.S. Army during World War I.  He was a private in Company H of the 168th infantry.  Private Satterlee was killed by a shell in the St. Mihiel campaign on September 15, 1918.  His death occurred near the town of Beney, France.  He was buried in the Victory Circle of Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa on April 24, 1922.  His name is not on the Boyd County memorial, most likely because he moved from the area when he was quite young and probably had no family living in the county at the time of his death.
