Arthur S. Thayer

Arthur Sylvester Thayer was born on August 3, 1896 near Knoxville in Knox County, Nebraska.  His family moved to the Monowi area of Boyd County when he was a boy.  He entered the U.S. Army in August of 1918.  He served in Company B of the 8th Division.  He died of pneumonia at Camp Mills, New York on November 5, 1918.  He is buried in the Alford Cemetery southwest of Monowi.  

 

 

     Arthur Thayer was brot (sic) back to Lynch Monday for burial from Long Island where he died of pneumonia last week.  He was buried Tuesday in Monowi cemetery.  He leaves his mother, two sisters and one brother to mourn his loss.

                                     Obituary

 

     Arthur N. Thayer was born August 3, 1896 near Knoxville in Knox Co. Nebr.  The family moved to Boyd Co. when Arthur as four years old, and he grew to manhood here being 22 yrs. 3 mo. and 2 days old when he died. 

     The family moved to Lynch about 8 years ago and it was here that he united with the M.E. Church while Rev. J. A. Johnson was out pastor.

     He entered the U.S. service August 5, 1918.  and was sent to Camp Fremont, California, where he remained in training nearly three months and was then transferred to Camp Mills N.Y.  On his arrival there he was taken to the Base Hospital where hs died November 5, of pneumonia.

      He leaves to miss cheery smile and words of comfort, his mother Mary A. Thayer, and three sisters Clara M. Christensen, Amy R. McGeorge, and Mary E. Thayer, one brother Floren W. Thayer having gone on before.
