Harvey Norton

          On February 22, 1894 Harvey E. Norton was born in Gage County, Nebraska. He enlisted to go fight in the war. He left home on April 13, 1917 at the age of 33. He was the first Stuart boy to go to France. Harvey Norton served in the Nebraska Corporal 23rd Infantry 2nd division American Expeditionary Forces World War 1. Harvey died in France on October 21, 1918. He died at the age of 34. George Norton, who was his father, received a telegram stating that his son died of wounds received at the first of the war. He was the third Stuart boy to give his life in the cause of fight. (Reprint of the Stuart Advocate) He is buried in Stuart, Nebraska.

 

          There was a Legion Post in Stuart, Nebraska named after Harvey E. Norton. On October 10th and 11th in 1919 was the first Nebraska State Legion Convention. On November 6th, 1920 a temporary Legion charter is issued to the Stuart Post 115. On October 29th, 1920, the name of the post of this was changed to Harvey Norton Post No. 115 when a permanent charter was secured. On October 2, 1947, there was a request to change the post name to Norton Carlisle Post. No. 115. In honor of a Navy man named Carlisle who had died in World War II who had died on June 16, 1942. On November 20,1947 the new charter for the Norton Carlisle Post No. 115 was issued.
