William Wadsworth was born on November 27, 1898. He enlisted in the army in the fall of 1917. He caught the Spanish flu and eventually died of pneumonia on October 30, 1918. He is buried in the Knoll Crest Cemetery in Naper, Nebraska.​  His name is on the Boyd County World War I memorial. 

 

   Chas. U. Lary of Dunlap, Ia. came Monday evening with the remains of Wm F. Wadsworth to St. Charles, S. D. and took him to Naper for burial.  He was laid to rest beside his mother who died six years ago while his father died over twenty years ago.  His death occured after an attack of Spanish Influenza followed by fneumonia(sic), October 30, 1918.  He was a member of the 14th cavalry Troop A at Fort Clark, Texas.

   William Faye Wadsworth was born Nov. 27, 1897 at Geneva, N.Y.  At the time of his death he was 20 yr. 11 mo. and 3 days old.  In the Spring of 1898 he moved to Boyd Co.  Nebr. accompained by his mother, two sisters and one brother.  Here he was reared to boy-hood, until the fall of 1913, when he went to Iowa.  He worked around Dunlap until the fall of 1917, where he made many friends.  In the fall of 1917 he enlisted in the service of Uncle Sam, in the U.S. cavalry and was first sent to Fort Logan  Colo. where he remained only a short time.  From Fort Logan he was stationed at Del Rio Texas on the border for several months until the hot weather caused his removal to Fort Sam Houston  Texas.  Here he was stationed until the last Mexican trouble and was then removed to Fort Clark Texas again on the border up until the time of his death.  He leaves to mourn his loss Mrs. C.U. Lary and Mrs R. Larson both of Dunlap, Ia. and Mr. Clyde Wadsworth of Morehead Ia.  He was a noted young man of Sterling worth and was loved by those who knew him best. 

   The funeral was held at Naper on Tuesday afternoon and was conducted by the Home Guards.

   The Rev. Cordts took charge of the service and the body was laid to rest in Knoll Crest cemetery.
