This website was created by the Early Bird History class at O'Neill High School in O'Neill, Nebraska during the 2015-2016 school year.  It is intended to honor those soldiers from Holt and Boyd Counties who died while serving during World War I.  It also recognizes Chauncey Porter and Dewey Edward Wright, two Holt County men who were each awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism during separate battles in France.  Both men survived the war.

The idea for this site began with a class Veterans Day project.  We then felt it was our duty to share our findings with as many people as possible.  This is an on going project and more information may be added in the coming years.

Our class would like to extend special thanks to the Frontier and Holt County Independent, the Butte Gazette, the Spencer Advocate, the Nebraska State Historical Society, the Holt County Veterans Service Office, and individuals too numerous to mention here.
